String shorthand - slashes through stems for repeated notes

I've notated 8th notes with single slashes (for repeated 16th notes) in a string orchestra passage. It should play back as repeated 16th notes with the single slash, but it is playing back as tremolo. I applied the single slash from the tremolos Palette, because that's the only place I could find it. Is there a way to correct the playback?
