Help with new feature: Switch instruments Mid-Staff in Musescore 2.0 BETA?

• Oct 26, 2014 - 01:10

I write music for guitars pretty often, and I want to be able to change the MIDI from distortion to harmonics to palm mutes to clean and then back again (For example, Killswitch Engage uses all of these techniques in My Last Serenade). I read that MS 2.0 can do this, but I can't figure out how it works. I tried the staff text method (described here http://musescore.org/en/handbook/change-and-adjust-sounds), but that only works on trumpets, violins, and such, because they have the other voices in their instruments.xml. Besides, that adds a new instrument to the mixer, which is annoying because they add up fast.

So: is it possible (without getting messy and changing instruments.xml) to change instruments or (or playback voice) midstaff? It gets messy having four staffs and four mixer panels for each guitar. I've looked around but I can't figure it out.

Hi

See this .

2.0 is in beta, so I wouldn't recommend adapting it for serious work. When the final version released, you could use 'Instrument' in the Text palette if the aforementioned option in Staff Text Properties isn't implemented.

The "instrument change" method mentioned above does work, but note it will also create mxier entries. As it should - people need to be able to control the volume of that patch separately from that of the main isntrument. Otherwise you might find your harmincs too loud for the distorted guitar or vice versa, etc.
