Adding instruments in MS 4.5.1

Hi everyone,
I am doing a baroque piece which starts off with soprano and continuo, and from bar 9 the violins and violas join in.

I have tried to select from bar 9 and then adding the instruments in question, but they are added from the beginning.
Is there anything I can do about this or is that normal behaviour in MS 4.5.1?

I have tried to hide the bars 1-8, but they only seem to hide the notes and rests, not the staves or clefs or text before the staves.

Is there anything I can do to achieve what I want?

So, create the four instruments you need, then at the end of your score entry, use this feature: https://musescore.org/en/handbook/4/showing-staves-only-where-needed#sc…
(if necessary, don't forget to place a system break at the junction of the 2 instruments vs. 4 instruments changeover for the layout to take effect)
