Is it possible for Musescore and Cubase to share an active MIDI input?

• Jun 2, 2025 - 16:11

I use Cubase as the same time as Musescore, composing in Cubase and notating in Musescore. However, even while Cubase is open (even while it's not the focus app), Musescore won't choose my midi keyboard (Preferences/Audio & MIDI/MIDI Input).

My midi keyboard shows up as an option in the dropdown, but I can't I choose it. and the field remains blank.

Therefor, I can't input notes into Musecore via my midi keyboard while Cubase is open.

Is there a way that Musescore and Cubase can "share" the MIDI input at the same time?

Thanks,
M

Hello @ basketball superstars , if Cubase is your main composing tool, you can:
- Use Cubase to route the MIDI output to a virtual MIDI cable (like [loopMIDI] or [loopBe]).
- In MuseScore, select that virtual MIDI input port.
- This way, MuseScore gets MIDI from Cubase, not directly from your keyboard.
