Playback does not work (and MuseScore prevents computer from playing sounds in other programs)
When I hit the play button, nothing happens. If I hit space (which according to the manual ought to start playback) I go back into note entry mode, even when note entry mode was turned off.
If I go to Display > Play Panel, I can check the checkbox, but no Play Panel comes up. All other panels work.
I tested the sound using Rhythmbox (mp3 player). If MuseScore is open and I try to play something on Rhythmbox, nothing happens. If I close the MuseScore window, the song starts to play in Rhythmbox. If Rhythmbox is playing and I start MuseScore, Rhythmbox stops playing.

Never mind, fixed this one myself with help from an article.
In case anyone else is having this problem:
In Edit > Preferences > I/O, changed ALSA device from "default" to "hw:0"
Playback now works.
The article was:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mscore/+bug/292391
Way to go.
Information also in the handbook. See //www.musescore.org/en/handbook/installation .
I updated the play mode page to include a cross reference to the installation page for Ubuntu users.
The handbook actually says that Space only works when you are in play mode. This is confusing and already fixed in the latest nightly builds .
