I am loading a score usually from a mxl.
My preference is always the symbol style for chord names
Step to reproduce:
Go to Style>General>Chordname.
Select "custom"
Select the symbol style.
Click Apply or OK (I haven't really figured out how those are different)
The chordnames do not always change to the symbol style. Even tried saving the document and reloading it. Once they fail to change they won't budge.

Using Beta 2.0 with MacOSX 10.9.5

Comments

First, Apply and OK work in the standard way: OK = Apply and then closes dialog.

Second, if by "symbol style" you mean cchords_sym.xml, you need to check the option to load chords.xml in order to use this file.

Note though that it is no longer necessary to do any of this. Symbols are now always available, no custom XML files required. Set the style to Jazz if you like, but it also works with Standard. then simply type "t" or "^" for triangle, "o" for diminished, "-" for minor, etc, and everything gets recommrecognized and rendered nicely.

If this does not resolve your issue, please post the score you are having trouble with, the custom XML file you are trying to use, and exact step by step instructions to reproduce the problem. Also, I assume you mean MuseScore 2.0 Beta 1 - there is no Beta 2 yet. But Beta 1 is already several months old; you might want to retry with a nightly build.
