1.3 versus 2.0 question

• Apr 8, 2015 - 18:23

Hi,

Is it safe to assume that Musescore 2.0.0 available at

https://musescore.org/en/download

is "as stable" as Musescore 1.3 available at

http://musescore.org/musescore-1.3

I'm currently just using it to whip out quick scores for practice and teaching purposes. At one point, when asking about a problem I'd had using 2.0, I had been told to install nightly 2.0 builds.

Also, any idea when the "final" Musescore 2 be available?

Thanks,

The "final" version 2.0 was released two weeks ago; there are no more betas. This is the version you get by clicking the main Download button on the main page, which is the link you listed above. It is best, most stable version of MuseScore.

During the beta period, it was the case that in general, the nightly builds were more stable than the betas, because they basically included bug fixes and almost nothing else. But now that 2.0 has released, nightly builds will be getting more experimental again - adding features for the next release - so don't rely on them being more stable than 2.0. However, as discussed in http://musescore.org/en/node/54561#comment-253996, there will be a 2.0.1 release soon that contains bug fixes only, and apparently right now, nightly builds are for that release. I'd say there unless you are interested in helping testing, you shoulds tick to the official 2.0 until 2.0.1 comes out. But by all means, feel free to try out the nightly builds to help test 2.0.1 if you are up for it!
