Open Temp File filename.mscz.temp Failed: Permission denied
Users are unable to save documents because of this error. Save As works once, but subsequent save attempts are met with the same error.
Admin users are unaffected. This leads me to believe that the software is trying to do something it shouldn't, like write to an area of the file system outside the user's home folder. All user preferences, documents, temp and cache files should be stored in the user's home space, so they should not be presented with a permission error.

MuseScore v0.9.5 running on Mac OS X 10.6.3
Except if I'm wrong the current trunk saves the temp file in the same directory than the file, so this partcular problem should be solved.
Could you try with a 0.9.6 beta2 ? (http://prereleasese.musescore.org/macosx)
Did you install MuseScore properly? (instructions are under Installation , "Mac").
David,
The installation procedure on the Mac is "Drag the MuseScore icon and drop it to the Applications folder icon."
Yeah, I think I got that right. :)
MuseScore v.0.9.5 is the current version available for download at your website. I am assuming that this is the current, stable release for public consumption.
I am testing MuseScore for potential deployment on 70k MacBooks for use by 7-12th graders. Deploying a prerelease build is less than desirable.
lasconic,
This link does not work for me: http://prereleases.musescore.org/macosx/
I'm happy to test the pre-release build to see if it fixes our issue, but I am unable to download from your pre-release link.
Thanks!
It takes about two minutes to download fine for me. Of course it depends on your internet connection.
It wasn't a speed issue. Earlier today the link was not loading at all.
It's working now, and downloading at about 600k/sec. Stay tuned...
MuseScore 0.9.6 beta2 DOES fix the file save issue.
But this is still a beta prerelease (as indicated in the launch splash screen). This is not a build that I can deploy to 70000 users.
Is there a timeframe for a release of 0.9.6? or perhaps v1.0?
Thanks!
Version 0.9.5 was the first release for Mac. There are several Mac-specific bugs that have been fixed since then:
http://musescore.org/en/project/issues?text=mac&status=All&priorities=A…
including some significant ones:
I agree that the latest prerelease is not ready for normal use. However the current 0.9.6 branch on SVN is quite stable and probably on par or better than 0.9.5 in terms of stability and readiness for release. There are no official dates for release yet, but my sense is the release candidate for 0.9.6 is expected early May with official release a few weeks later unless we encounter any surprises.

David,
I do not believe this issue is a duplicate. Issue 2073 appears to be resolved in version 0.9.5, but ONLY for admin users. The problem persists in version 0.9.5 for non-admin users. This behavior does however appear to be resolved in the as of yet unreleased v0.9.6 beta.
While fine for home or hobbyist use, the current, stable release build of MuseScore is not at a point where i can recommend it for a large (70k unit) institutional deployment.
Issue 2073 was fixed in r.2086 which is after 0.9.5 r.2012 was released. You may be correct that it is a different bug so I won't mark it as duplicate.
However, the issue tracker is used by developers to keep track the status of the latest in SVN. Please open only if the problem exists in the latest developer version.
I also received this message on my mac. If the file is still open, go to save as and rename it and it saves again.
