Page Numbers - how to edit the position of page numbers, in MuseScore 2 ? [ SOLVED ]

• Jun 1, 2015 - 00:08

Previously, using MuseScore 1.3, I was able to edit the position of page numbers, by using the "relX" and "relY" settings [via "Style / Edit Text Style / Page Numbers Odd (or Even)" - which was found in the 'list', between "Bar Number" and "Translator"].

In MuseScore 2, "Page Numbers" seems to be missing from the 'list' under "Style / Text ..." , and I haven't yet been able to find how to edit page numbering in this new version.

Basically, I just sometimes want to have the page numbers positioned at the bottom centre of the page, instead of bottom left or right.

Page numbers are now part of the Header or Footer—near the bottom of the list of text styles. But to position them at the bottom center (forgive my American spelling) of the page instead of the corners, you would use Style -> General… -> Header, Footer, Numbers.

Thanks very much for pointing that out. Your quick reply has made my day !
By typing $p in the centre pane (instead of the left or right pane), I now get the numbering centred on the page.
And I can still fine tune the 'offsets', and format the style of the text, via " Style / Text / Footer ".
Excellent !

What type of formatting do you mean that cannot be performed by editing the footer text style? I guess maybe you mean having different font for page number versus a copyright message? This can be done, I think. by adding explicit formatting tags within the footer text. Could you describe more precisely what you are trying to do?

For example I want the page-number with 14 and with a frame and the copyright with 8 anf without frame.

This has been possible in 1.3 in a very easy matter.

And in 2.02 ther exist still the style possibilty for either page-numrer (even/odd) or for copyright - but within a footer I don't know, how to use.

Thanks for your help from Germany.

As I said, you *can* get mixed formatting by using appropriate HTML-like tags - see for instance https://musescore.org/en/node/39606#comment-173546. The footers in 2.0 can be controlled in ways not possible in 1.3, including the ability to have independent left and right footer, to suppress footers on the first page, support for a variety of special variables like $n for number of pages, $d for date, etc. It's a more powerful system overall, but it does have a few small limitations as well, most notably the need to use markup to get font changes.

What specifically are you asking about with odd/even page numbers? Should be as simple as outting the $p in the appropriate box for either the odd or even pages. It's even done that way by default - $p in the "Right" box for odd pages, "Left" for even.

In general, MuseScore focuses on notation; for more complex formatting of text that is separate from the notation, you are probably better off exporting to PDF without footer then using a page layout / desktop publishing program to add that.

Thanks for the answer.

I do not know, why an existing perfect feature for the formatting of page numbers still exists but can not be used. The only problem seems to be, that the page numbers will not be realized on each page - only when they are writen in the footer.

The use of HTML-like tags ist not the thing, the users of musescore like.

I can not understand, why an existing feature now never exists. This feature has been very simple und very good for excellent looks of writen pages.

If you or other people have ideas - THANKS for helping.
