Issues with slurs, ties and dots associated with unison notes

• Jul 11, 2015 - 22:12

I have across several issues involving chords with unison notes. The issue I know about is that only one tie can be generated between a unison pair (see https://musescore.org/en/node/65676): a slur has to suffice for the other. But there are some significant problems with adjusting and offsetting slurs and ties. See attached score, "unison_note_issues" for details.

The other problem is with duration dots attached to chords with unison notes. These are detailed in the file, "offset_dotted_unisons."

I don't think you can count on which of two unison notes is going to display to the left versus the right if you just leave it up to chance. Set them explicitly to left & right of stem (Shift+X or Inspector) if you need to be able to deal with them independently. I suspect doing that would solve most of the problms you mention, except of course for the already-known basic issue with ties & unisons. Anything else that isn't solved, go ahead and file a bug report for.

The solution for this proved to be:

1. Set each unison note to a separate voice.
2. Set one of the voices to "stemless" in the Inspector (to remove duplicate note stem and tail).
3. Apply ties voice-by-voice and adjust position of ties if necessary.

I've added this to the handbook .
