I guess it's about a typo: eight notes > eighth notes
Select all eight notes looks correct to me... The 8 notes, the eight sixteenth notes to be more precise.
At that point, if you're working through the instructions, all you have in the measure is eight sixteenth notes. Select all eight of them and press S to slur them.
