notation incorrect in latest musescore

I have recently upgraded Musescore to the latest and Windows to W10. When trying to correct an input error of mine I want to paste a dotted minim but the program will only let me paste a full semibreve. Originally I pasted an undotted minim and a rest. I deleted the rest and the minim, clicked on the dotted minim but stll get a full Semibreve
Help!!.
