Note Entry Malfunction
RONDO CAPRICCIO 2.mscz I am re entering into MS 2+ my Rondo piece-all of a sudden the Note Entry function keeps jumping around 1 measure forward, then 1 backward as I am entering notes. Makes you dizzy after awhile. I did have this happen just once in MS 1.3, but it fixed itself after awhile. This is not fixing itself. You enter a note, and as it's entered, the measure jumps backwards or forward. If you're at the end of a page, it will jump between pages. I tried closing and reopening the file, also quit MS and later reopened it, but it is still happening.

I made a few attempts ...
Open Layout / Page Settings ... and set Page Size on "A4". Click Apply and OK.
This should solve.
It is normal in both version of MuseScore that if entering a note changes the number of measures that fit on a line, the measure will jump to the previous or next line as appropriate. Think of it as word wrap. Same exact thing happens if you happen to be at the end of a line in Microsoft Word ort any text editor, and as you add a letter to a word that causes it not to fit, the word jumps to the next line, and vice versa if you delete a character.
But as mentioned, 2.0 provides a new Continuous View in part to give you an alternative twhere this won't happen.

Other solution: in this particular case, it is due to the courtesy key signature in measure 9 which disrupts the layout.
Just either disable this function in Style -> General -> Page -> Untick "Create courtesy key signature" (but it maybe not be what you wish?)
Either, more simply, and so you keep this courtesy key signature in the same place, by adding, always in measure 9, a system break that will stabilize the layout.

Hello, By painstakingly working backward testing my note entries, I already did discover where things went wrong--I decided I had a "Corrupted measure" and cut stuff and reentered the 1 and 2 endings etc. Now everything is fine on note entry in this piece. However, thanks for your information. THis way is slow and clumsy. As I said, I had this happen before, so I need a scientific way of fixing things, which info you sent! So the 4 naturals (Yes, I want them) upset the layout?! It's not really a courtesy key signature in my mind, the 2nd "b" theme of the Rondo is IN C major, so I wanted that signature for it. So, on MS, maybe create courtesy key signature means what? I will study your attachment soon. Thanks--Del

The term "courtesy key signature" refers to the key signature that appears at the end of one system to give you a "heads up" about the *real* key signature change at the beginning of the next line. The real change to C happens at the beginning of the fourth system (measure 10).
Courtesy key signatures can make the layout more "delicate". As I said, it's really just a question of "word wrap" - any change you make can potentially affect how many measures fit on a system. But courtesy key signature can make that determinate more likely to be affected by small changes, because depending on whether the key change happens at the start of a system or not, you either need a courtesy key signature at the end of the previous system or not.
FWIW, though, I am not sure what problem you were seeing on this piece. Which specific note in which specific measure were you changing that was causing the layout to shift? I tried a few different things and didn't see any shifts.
As for "scientific way" of locking the layout, that's easy - insert line breaks at the end of all systems via Edit / Tools / Add/Remove Line Breaks, then reduce stretch a notch to be sure there is a little extra "wiggle room". One would nomally do this only after msot note entry is completed and you're pretty sure the layout you see is what you want to keep.
Normally, of course, note entry is left-to-right, stsrt of piece to finish of [iece, so the "word wrap" function is not perceived to be a problem - a totally normally part of note entry just like it is for text. It's mostly when you go back to edits later - which I assume is what you were doing - that one becomes aware of it.
