how to generate a Tenor Sax part from concert lead sheet

• Sep 20, 2015 - 06:54

I've made a lead sheet using the Jazz Lead Sheet template. The single melody line is by default in concert pitch and the default instrument shows as Piano.

I understand that if I change the instrument to Tenor Sax, the correct transposition will be done for me, and I can print the Sax player a part. But how, exactly, do I change the instrument?

Thanks....Lyle

Hello,
From your Jazz Lead Sheet Template: right-click on a measure -> Staff Properties -> Hit " Change instrument" -> then choose for the instrument wished.

Thanks a lot. I was looking through the Style menu trying to find it.

It doesn't look like the chords get transposed, though. I'd think the Tenor Sax player would want transposed chords for his solos.

And while I'm asking, how do I make the "Tenor Sax" name appear somewhere in the upper right, so I can tell which printout is which.

Thanks again....Lyle

It's a bug that chords are not transposed when using that method, there is a pending fix that will hopefully be in a future version.

Meanwhile though, instead of changing isntrument, just use Notes / Transpose to do the transposition, specifying either the desired new key or the interval.

Depending on where you want the text to appear, you can use one of the items in Add / Text (eg, Part Name) to add text to your chart identifying the key or instrument.
