Fingerings on TAB

• Sep 26, 2015 - 08:25

I'm wondering if it is possible to place fingerings on the TAB staff. I'm a guitar teacher and would like the ability to place fingerings on the TAB staff since TAB is an integral part of what I do, and so far I seem only to be able to place them above the treble staff.

At one point fingerings did appear on tab staves, but there was pretty much unanimous complaints from users that they didn't want them on the linked tab staves when entering both, so fingerings were disabled for tab. See #32966: Make fingering optional on tab staves. It was seen at the time that eventually someone might want an option to allow them. Feel free to submit an official feature for this (use "Help / Report a Bug" from within MuseScore, but report it as a feature request rather than bug report).

As said, this question was related to linked staves.
Pending the possible implementation of an option to display the fingering in a single Tab staff, there is a convenient workaround to achieve this.
Just enter in a score, numbers 1, 2, 3, 4 and letters p, i, m, a, as staff text: select a note -> Ctrl + T, and input number or letter desired, etc.

Then, for re-use, drag and drop these symbols (with Ctrl + Shift kept pressed) in a palette, Fingerings for instance! The style will be retained.

I made an example: text in bold and italics (for LH fingerings, to differentiate them from the numbers of tablature ...!) with a size of 8.00
I get this result (don't know if it is close or not of your wish.)

I also join the .mscz file: tabs fingering.mscz
So, you can use the same symbols and place them in your palette, or create new ones according to your taste.
