resizing symbols

I am using version 0.9.6.3 on my Mac w/OS 10.4.11. How do I resize symbols? I want to make the Coda sign bigger. I've tried lots of things with no success. While I'm at it, how do I delete the damned thing????? Using my delete key doesn't work. Double clicking on it doesn't bring up a box to do anything to it. Trying to cut it out (as in cut and paste) doesn't work. Using the back arrows on the top commands bar doesn't work. The only thing that works is to not save it, and close the program. Not useful. HELP!
