How do I change the length of a note

• Dec 4, 2015 - 22:43

Completely new to music and trying to learn musical notation...

Basically I've created a score but a couple of the note lengths at the beginning are wrong. When I try to change the length of the note, it deletes the other notes, how do I prevent it doing that? It seems like it should be obvious how to do this, but I haven't been able to figure it out!

You are trying to increase the duration so MS removes anything in the way. It will not "move things over". Simply rewrite what you need to, using proper durations. :)

Well, if you lengthen a note, the next note can't be played, because the lengthened note is still sounding. I guess probably you want to *move* the subsequent notes later in time, so they sound *after* the lengthened note instead of at the time you initially told MuseScore you wanted them played. In which case: simply use cut & paste: select the notes you want moved later (only you know how many notes you want moved), Ctrl+X to cut, then click where you want them moved to, Ctrl+V to paste. Probably easiest to do the cut before lengthening the previous note, then do the paste afterwards.
