Import from Sibelius

You should be able to Export from Sibelius as XML, maybe via the Dolte plugin. MuseScore can Import those.
.sib is a propriatary and closed source format, so there's very little chance direct import will ever get implemented anywere outside Sibelius itself.

Hi Jens, sorry to bring the bad news but this feature request is never going to happen. While we can't stop anyone from coding Sibelius import into MuseScore, we would strongly advise to work on something as it would be a waste of time and energy otherwise. After all, the MusicXML way (export from Sibelius, import into MuseScore) does the job already. If that would not be the case for you, please share the MusicXML file with us so we can see if we can improve the import on our side.

I just tripped over a web site that makes files available as either PDF or Sibelius. I've had problems with PDFs; IWBNI MS could be made to import Sibelius, but I hear what you're saying about proprietary formats.

You'd probably have far better luck asking that site to make MusicXML versions available.

I now have quite a bit of experience in changing sibelius files into musescore files. My experience is that starting again from the beginning it quicker and has better results than exporting as .xml or similar and then importing. The same is true for similar things such as word to latex, latex to html and so on: it is easiest to start again from the beginning rather than using any sort of translator.

Hello - I do not have Sibelius. But I have several.sib files that I need to open and edit. Can I do that in some way without having sibelius in order to do the XML dolet plug in in Sibelius?

I also need to import sib-files into musescore. I do not want to pay an immense amount of money to buy Sibelius just for the only purpose to open and then export 10 or 12 sib-files, and then never again use Sibelius. Also an online converter would be fine that converts sib-files to MusicXML or any other format that musescore can read.

Exporting from Sibelius isn't really a good solution. What if you all you have a file sent to you by a friend/colleague? If you don't have Sibelius to open the file and re-export it, you're stuck.

That's correct, but you can ask your friend/colleague to export to MusicXML, or even introduce him to the wonders of free software.

Which would suggest that you have to own Sibelius. What if one doesn't & have been given a Sibelius doc to work from?
