Dynamic and tempo changes only last for a few bars...

I'm writing a piece with a few tempo changes in. When I playback, the second tempo (90bpm) only stays in effect for 9 and a half bars before reverting to the original tempo (60bpm). SImilar happens with dynamics. Am I making some sort of mistake?
