IMPORTING A MIDI FILE

• Jan 13, 2016 - 16:39

Hi Everyone,

I've written some music in Logic Pro X that I exported as a MIDI file. I've read the manual which explains how to import MIDI files, however, I can't seem to find exactly how to do this. Is there a button, drop-down menu, etc? Thanks for your help, even though I know it's probably right in front of me somewhere: )

From Logic Pro X, you can export your music score as a MusicXML file if you want to open it in a dedicated music engraving application such as MuseScore.
Results are often better than using MIDI import into MuseScore.
Regards, and welcome aboard.

Or just File / Open from within MuseScore. The dialog will show all file types MuseScore can open, including MIDI and MusicXML as well as MuseScore's own MSCZ format.

Indeed, the file you attached is not an MSCZ file. You might have changed the name to make it masquerade as an MSCZ file, but it very definitely still a MIDI file. Not sure what problem you were having before changing its name, or the sense in which it "works" now - MuseScore will not open it as is. It does import the file just fine if you rename it back to ".mid" or ".midi".

I am so sorry about that, I sent that comment right after I tried to upload it, it hasn't uploaded yet, I am SO sorry. I should have put a progress update saying that it didn't work..

(But there are SOME files that do change to a certain format if you rename it, for example, .gif to .png. .jpg, and/or .jpeg..)
