Those are rests in a 2nd voice. You can hide them by selecting them and hitting "v" (for visible/non-visible).
By the way, this should be in the forums under Help/Bug report. This is not an issue as defined by MuseScore.

Those rests shouldn't be there in the first place. It appears you entered the music incorrectly - you probably tried using voices other than 1 & 2. You should be using voices 1 & 2 in the top staff, then again using vocies 1 & 2 in the bottom staff. MuseScore gives you four vocies *per staff*, and expects you to start with voice 1 on each.
