2 Measure Repeat with Playback in 2.0
Here is my solution for having a 2-measure repeat symbol that actually has an audible repeating function when you use the Playback function, or export an audio file from MuseScore:
Measures 1 and 2 = The measures before the repeat symbol.
Measures 3 and 4 = The measures containing the repeat symbol.
1) Copy everything in Measures 1 and 2, and paste it in Measures 3 and 4.
2) Hold cmd (on a Mac) and individually select each note-head in Measures 3 and 4.
3) In the Inspector, uncheck "Visible."
4) Hold cmd (on a Mac) and individually select each note-stem in Measures 3 and 4.
5) In the Inspector, uncheck "Visible."
6) Hold cmd (on a Mac) and individually select each rest in Measures 3 and 4.
7) In the Inspector, uncheck "Visible."
8) Go to the Master Palette and click on Symbols on the left list. Or, type "z."
9) Find the symbol for 2-Measure Repeat, and insert it over Measure 3.
10) Drag the repeat symbol to the exact middle of the barline between Measure 3 and 4.
11) Select measure 4, and add Staff Text "2" without the quotes.
12) Change the font of the Staff Text to "MScore" and the font size to 25.
13) Drag the "2" directly above the 2-Measure-Repeat sign.

If you use this a lot, I would recommend dragging the 2-Measure Repeat symbol into your Repeat Palette, or somewhere else that is convenient.

I changed what I wrote to apply to a 2-Measure-Repeat symbol, since that is still a symbol image, as opposed to a real repeat tool. Thank you for catching that, though!!

Note that this solution still doesn't work with playback if you have two 2-measure repeats in a row, It works for the first, but not the second
In step 9, rather than inserting it over measure 3, insert it over measure 4. Then when you drag it to the barline between measure 3 and 4, it is being positioned relative to the start of measure 4, so it will stay in the correct position if the measure width is stretched or squeezed.

FWIW, while I appreciate the ingenuity of the approaches described here, I rather prefer a different one as being more flexible and generally useful (eg, spacing is good, works cleanly if there other staves as well that don't need measure repeats, etc).
My approach is to only worry about the appearance on the main staff, then add a separate staff and copy the notes there for playback, then mark that staff invisible. That's the approach I use for other things like putting in accompaniment parts or improvised solos for playback where the score/parts will jut show slash notation, or complex ornament playback, etc.

My preferred method of doing this is to create a new staff of the instrument in question. Then I edit one of these to have the repeats and mute it.
