Ocarina as a woodwind instrument?
Hello,
I'm lately trying to develop some sheets for ocarinas but I see that the ocarina sound here is very different from what I know to be the sound of an ocarina. I see it is listed under woodwind instruments and it does feel a lot like I'm listening to a Pan Flute or a Zampoña when listening to sheets that use it as an instrument.
I'd like to know if there is any other kind of instrument I can use to sound like a clay ocarina as a workaround.
Also, may you guys show me what the ocarina that I listen to in musescore supposed to look like in real life? I'd love to see a picture of what is the instrument it is supposed to be.
Thank you.

The sound you get is what the (default) soundfont has for Ocarina. You may be able to find a soundfont with a better sound, see https://musescore.org/en/handbook/soundfont
For pictures of Ocarinas see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ocarina

I'll give it a look but... Why did you linked me to pictures of ocarinas?
Btw, thank you for helping me with the soundfont thing. I didn't even know this existed. I'll be sure to look more for one.

You asked for pictures of an ocarina, didn't you?

I asked to see a picture of the ocarina that was used as a basis for that woody sound. A "normal" ocarina I have laying on my desk at this very moment ;)

There are lots of "normal" ocarinas, however - that's what the article was showing. Some are made of clay, others made of wood or other materials. The soundfont we use is called FluidR3, maybe somewhere online you can find more information on which specific model they chose, or whether in fact they substituted another instrument. It's not something we created ourselves, so we can't really answer that.

Thank you! That was really informative.
Sorry if I sounded rude at any moment. You both were really helpful and I'm grateful.
Keep up the excellent work here!
