Import a PDF and then Transpose it?

• May 19, 2017 - 20:15

I love MuseScore. . I want to import a pdf lead sheet and then transpose it. Is this possible? I have attached the pdf and want to transpose from the key of C to G. Thank you . Bob

The hard part is converting from PDF - which is just a picture, could just as easily be of a cat as it is of sheet music - to something that MuseScore can recognize as music, like MusicXML. The import facility mentioned above can attempt this, as can other third party programs, but as mentioned, results are highly variable.

Once you get the music into MuseScore - and it might be easier to just type it in by hand - then transposing it is trivially simple.

Just curious. In that pdf, at the top of the second page, "...keep you satisfied.", on *fied*, the chord G7 #5 with an augmented 5th looks right. But the music has Eb, a minor 6th. Is there a reason for that, or is it a bug?

Ten minutes to take it through SmartScore and export as an XML. You can transpose it there, as well. You would still need to add the lyrics manually, since, in my experience, SmartScore doesn't handle lyrics very well, especially multiple verses. I always recognize without text, and add it all back in in Finale. I'm new here, so I don't know how well MS4 works with the multiple verses and the font.

MuseScore handles multiple verses fine. You can add verse numbers, and insert a space before the opening word with Ctrl+Space.
The lyrics font can be redefined in Format > Style > Text styles > Lyrics odd lines | Lyrics even lines.
