"Bend hats" are angled slurs, often found in guitar notation, indicating a string bend up or down. They can be up- or down-facing. e.g.

Bend hats are still not supported in 3.5.

The workaround above is helpful though pretty time consuming. I'm confident that a lot of people would be very happy if angled slurs were available.
