I tried to use an F8vb clef from the master palette (lower part of the photo) but it mis-renders in score:

My apologies if this is already fixed post-3.2; in that case, please point out the commit ;)

Same behavoir in 3.5.0, but only with Emmentaler. The palette uses Bravura, if the score uses Bravura too, it looks the same

Ah okay, thanks for the confirmation. I actually prefer Emmentaler over Bravura (except for the accidentals, I’d love to see the accidentals from Parnassus merged into Emmentaler) so I’ll keep that and will just remember that the F8vb clef doesn’t render right, it’s not really a problem in the score I’m working on at the moment as that stave will end up being hidden.

That page doesn't show any barlines

And doesn't really mandate that the 8 is as close to the clef as it is for Bravura

Perhaps “not that close”, but this is “totally disconnected”, the casual eye wouldn’t even find it.

I’m hacking a bit on Emmentaler right now anyway and am learning about the proper positioning of things in SMuFL.

I’m considering preparing a PR that fixes this issue by moving the 8 much closer to the clef symbol, like in Bravura. Is there any chance of that getting accepted?

Dunno. Currently it IMHO is easier to see as it isn't hidden between staff lines.
But unlike Bravura, Emmentaler is a font that we can (and did) change for MuseScore.
