How to split a score into different pieces?
I imported a (freely available) pdf score that contains three pieces and Musescore converted it into a single long piece. Is it possible to split it into different pieces? Or should I just cut and paste the relevant sections into new files?

I think the second solution.
Select the measures that are one song then use save selection to make it an independent file.

That really works BRILLIANT!! I am working on Puccini's Messa di Gloria. I am a vocalcoach for choirs and need fragments for singers to train with. So first step: divide every chapter into smaller chapters and fragments that have technical difficulties voor the voice. I am SOOOOOO happy to have found your answer

Perhaps use a Section Break from the Breaks and Spacers palette?

You can copy paste the content, but unfortunately you will have to redo the support yourself (time signature, repeats,...)
Hopefully one day proper copy paste will be implemented.
Waiting for that, easiest solution in your case if to copy the file 3 times, and to delete the unnecessary sections in each copy.

Save selection requires no copy and paste at all.
