How to add solo to part of other instrument.
I'm having difficulty trying to explain this but I'll try my best. I want to add a french horn solo in a piccolo part, but I want to keep the piccolo invisible in the main score.

The problem is if I add notes to the part it will show up in the main score, so it won't be empty.

Ah, true, and if you make the instrument invisible, it'd be invisible in either, see #64626: Allow making staff invisible staff in excerpt/part

You can select notes and pretty much anything else and set them to invisible so they won't print. If they're light gray and you don't want to see them use the menu View->Show invisible to toggle this. Also invisible things are ignored with Hide Empty staves.
