Playback tempo isn't stuck in the mud, yet "Play" panel calls it 140!
SOMETIMES, my project opens up and it's like it swallowed a whole bottle of sleeping pills. Yet the score has a tempo-mark of 140 bpm AND the "Play" panel says that's what it is. But the playback is obviously much, much too slow.
Also, SOMETIMES the score opens up and plays at the correct tempo!
Musescore 3.5.2 latest build.
Any ideas?

You probably have multiple tempo marks and one is set to snail speed. This one will probably be invisible but can be seen by opening the .mscx file and examining it. Doing this will tell you exactly where the tempo mark is. If you right click a tempo mark and choose Select>All similar elements then press delete and reenter the tempo you want it should fix this. If you have a lot of tempo marks this isn't probably the best route. Attach your score and let someone examine it.

The file contains one block as follows:
HTML brackets removed. "200 bpm" is my latest effort to get it to play at expected speed. I don't know what unit-of-measure the Tempo tag actually uses.

Are you saying if you load the file you attached, you hear it playing back too slowly? Sounds fine to me. The tempo text says 250 and that's exactly what my metronome says as well. Maybe you have an override to the tempo applied in your Play Panel? Makes sure the slider is at the default position - 100%

I know that when I played it yesterday the tempo was 140 and that sounded like "250" sounds today. I'll have to fire up my DAW and listen to what it thinks is either tempo.

Sounds like you were using the play panel and slowed down the tempo.
