Instrument hierarchy in part score
Right now I'm making part scores for my percussion section because the composer of a piece we're playing decided to put them all on a single score (please don't do this). For one of the parts, I have glockenspiel and crash cymbal. I have the score hide empty systems, but when both systems are empty, it defaults to showing the glockenspiel, but I want it to show the crash cymbal, as that instrument is used more in this piece. Is there a way to do that?
To put it more clearly, I want the second system in the attached image to be crash cymbals to match the preceding system, but I can't figure out how to do that.

If all staves are empty and you use 'hide empty staves', MuseScore shows the top one.
So you could move the desirend one to the top
Or you could use its staff properties and set it to never hide

How do I move them? I've tried clicking and dragging, right clicking on one of the instruments, and selecting one of them and using the arrow keys. Is there some way to do this that I missed?

Yes, in the Add Instruments dialog, select then use the arrows to the right of the list

There's another seldom-used option in Staff/Part Properties that lets you select a non-top staff to show if all staves are empty: "Do not hide if system is empty". If some staff other than the top has this set, then it will be chosen instead of the top staff when all staves are empty.

That's what I wrote above. Ar least ment to write ;-)

:-). "Never hide" is a different option, one that comes up often enough, this other one comes up only once a year at most.
