Position of lyrics under two quavers
I have a single word sung over two quavers, and notice that if I use an underscore or a dash after the word, the positioning is correct. However, it is the practice in many choral pieces to just print the word alone.
When I do this I find that the word positions itself starts slightly before the first of the two quavers.
I have to go into the inspector and enter an X offset of 0.5sp to get the word in the right place, directly underneath the first quaver.
I don't want to have to do this for every occasion.
Am I missing something please?

Syllables of lyrics are centred on the note by default. If you want to enter lyrics way you describe, you can ignore the positioning to begin with and then select multiple such lyrics with [Ctrl]-click, go into Inspector and click on the left-align symbol in the Text section.

Thanks. Get that.
A secondary problem is when entering lyric over two notes WITH a dash in between, the dash can be really compressed between the syllable and the next syllable. Is there a way I can get MS to automatically stretch to accommodate a bigger gap between the dash and the syllables?

The settings controlling all this are in Format / Style / Lyrics. if you have trouble seeing how to get the specific results you want on a specific score, please attach it so we can understand and assist better.
