Export as XML?

How do I export an mscz as a MusicXML file? Compressed and uncompressed both work. Whenever I go to File>Export>Compressed/Uncompressed MusicXML File, it never actually does it, it just closes out of the export prompt.

Have you tried adding the extension (adding.xml to the file name)?
Which version do you use? On which operating system? Have you updated translations (Help/Resource Manager menu)?

Hi,
I see this post is a few months old but is the most recent I found regarding MuseScore exporting tabs to MusicXML.
I'm using 3.6.2.548 - does it seem to be working properly these days?
Thanks :-)

Thanks for the quick response!

I found that link yesterday, then got to digging around and found a couple posts where people were saying there's a problem with the tabs in the xml export.

What I'm doing is connected to a music ed book I published a few years ago - Garage Band Theory. Steady sales, not huge, but consistent for 5+ years.

There are literally hundreds of examples in the book that have tabs for banjo, bass, guitar, mandolin and ukulele. Currently revising/editing all of them, about halfway through. They're all available as a free download for customers and I'm recommending that they download MuseScore and use it, at least for this.

But I know there's a lot of Finale, Sibelius users - and IF the tabs are working well in MusicXML, I'll convert them. But I don't want to spend the time right now if that's something that's still being tweaked - there's no emergency or firm deadline to have them available.

And one other question - I've saved a bunch as compressed MuseScore files and they work great on my machine and thinking for the download this is probably the best option. What do you think?

Thanks again!

Hello! Exporting tabs from MuseScore to MusicXML has only a few issues.

  • Tabs for Bass Guitar, Electric Bass, 5 String Electric Bass, (the other) 5 String Electric Bass, and 6 String Electric Bass seem to shift down an octave. This is not easy to fix.
  • All Dulcimers seem to reverse. Hard to explain, so it's being shown in an attached file. Hopefully you're not working with Dulcimers. (Original on top, XML on bottom)

Thanks!
No dulcimers here, so that's not a problem.

And the other tabs (except bass) seem to work well?

It looks to me like there's no difference between mscx and mscz when I open them - one folder I have with mscz files is about 10.5mb and the same with mscx is 1.4mb - just curious what's the difference ... ?
