If you still have problems after reading that please come back and describe in more detail what you are doing (which keys etc. you are pressing) what you expect to happen and what happen instead.
sorry Steve; I realised just after posting the query that the rests are there as placeholders to be replaced by notes - obvious once the penny had dropped! I tried to delete the post so as not to put anyone to the trouble of replying, but it didn't work. thank you for pointing me to the online handbook which I had not found. i appreciate your help; thank you very much.
(s)he has explained why : because realizing it was a basic note entry question (s)he wanted to avoid us taking time for it. The delete has been done simultaneaously with the first answer, so that was just to late.
No need to be agressive with a new user.
It was a question and hint, not (meant to be) aggressive (sorry if it came across that way)
And there's no way to tell when it got deleted.
It is an idiosyncrasy of this forum that you can modify a post after a reply, this really should not be possible.
