I have installed MuseHub from musescore.org, and I installed MuseScore (4.0.1) from MuseHub. MuseScore will only show the splash screen for a moment and crash. I have restarted my computer and uninstalled and reinstalled both MuseHub and MuseScore many times, and I have even tried other fixes i found on the internet such as changing my audio output device (I tried all of them) to no avail.
Some things to note:
Clicking on the Sounds tab or any of the sounds in MuseHub results in Musehub crashing and throwing a critical error. (error1.png)
Clicking on any of the sounds (the icon, not the "get" button) on the home page of MuseHub results in yet another crash and critical error. (error2.png)
While installing MuseScore the first time, I also installed all of the Muse Sounds.
While MuseScore and all of the Muse Sounds were installing, I clicked the sounds tab (which caused MuseHub to crash). Upon reopening MuseHub, all of the downloads resumed nicely, but my suspicion of a corrupted install, and the fact that MuseScore would not get past the splash screen is what prompted me to reinstall the first time. I uninstalled both MuseHub and MuseScore from Windows settings, and restarted my computer. I then re-downloaded and installed MuseHub, (the sounds tab and sound icons in MuseHub still caused crashes), I reinstalled MuseScore, and it still would not run. I tried repairing both MuseScore and MuseHub, as well as running MuseScore as administrator from Powershell (which provided no extra insight), and i tried changing my audio device as that was a fix that worked for a lot of people (here: https://musescore.org/en/node/337474 and here: https://musescore.org/en/node/338214). I am completely stuck and I don't know where to find any crash logs or turn on any debug output for MuseScore, so I feel stuck.

I have the same issue - splash screen shows for a few seconds then disappears and your stuck. I've loaded MS4 on at least four distinct laptops ranging from average horsepower to 1TB HD half full with 16GB RAM and solid vid card. Same issue. Have seen the Hub in the process tree but not always MS itself. The only install use case I've NOT done is a solo MS4 install w/o the Hub. Since recently, the save feature has said it finished and didn't actually save, I've stopped using MS for any serious work out of a realized fear so will probably install just MS4 to see how that goes. But - on at least a wide range of windows machines - this is an issue. I can not figure out why it eventually "works" and outside of the save risk, it's solid until this pops up and then you're toast until the MS gods change their minds. Reinstalls and repairs do nothing. Killing processes also not useful. Happy to help further. The MS effort is awesome but we need to address things as we move towards a better "mousetrap".

Follow on: in playing around with the process tree (task manager in windows), I noticed you're making a rather complex decision with the Hub - with processes for the popup window maybe distinct from some other processes. Not sure but the various process popup in distinct areas. In addition, I noticed that while I can get the Hub to open, MS4 will do the same splash screen disappearing act. BUT, the other interesting thing is, in the Hub, adding any say sound fonts does nada but does say "Error Muse Hub helper service is not running" with a nice connect button that does nothing after it allows you to click it. Related? No idea but sharing as that all smells off. And finally, once you click that, this popup window is not frozen and you need to kill the process to try again. When you return from the frozen/kill the process, the Hub is "running" but nothing does anything (not frozen yet) and that error message with again enabled button is back. BTW, in all this, the process moves from app to background - again, that seems overly complex and smells of "well intended" - but with windows, that can be a headache as the way windows actually works can make that intent do the darndest things :)

Final, final. The Hub icon in the "hidden icons" tray, shows the Hub button, even when the Hub hangs. This icon offers a "kill" switch but that doesn't kill things. You need to go to the background process.

Just tried to install Musescore on Windows 10. Same problem. I installed it in my office on a Linux pc - no problems there. But here in my living room next to my piano (where I need it) it doesn't work. Tried with and without Hub. Will not start.

I have the same issue.
It started with 4.0.1 and it happens for 4.0.2 too.
I recently reinstalled Win11 Pro but before that I had successfully installed musescore 4. But alas I had a harddrive failure and after re-installing Windows 11 Pro onto a new harddrive and installing all updates and then reinstalling musescore, it fails to get past the splash screen.

I've tried uninstalling musescore. reinstalling it. installing it via Muse Hub. Installing it directly.. nothing helps.

Looking at Event Viewer, all I have is an Error...

From looking at various related posts, this looks like a recurring problem without a uniform workable solution to date that I have seen, I have tried numerous strategies to mitigate this very issue including reinstall , run as admin, , compatibility troubleshooter, and finally factory resetting musescore 4, all to no avail. all this on a windows 11 computer. I get NO error messages whatsoever, the splash screen starts on launch, stays open for around 10 to 15 seconds then closes.

I've been unable to start the program since 4.0 launched, with this exact issue, and like everyone here, I've tried everything I know how. Splash screen pops up, program doesn't run. No error messages, no change in my computer's performance, no evidence that the program is running in Task Manager.

In my case, I was selecting an output with mic input on Windows, just change to the output only device and MuseScore opened, looks like a bug and is present since first 4.0 version.

Same issue on a Mac M1 Mini running Ventura (13.6) and again in updated Sonoma (14.0). Cannot get past the splash screen. MS3+ works fine. I have tried changing audio output devices, re-installation of MS4 and MuseHub/Instruments all to no avail.

When it did run (I have to use my Apple TimeMachine back to get MS4 to run again), it always (literally) generated a crash report whenever I quit MS4. Below is the crash report for this new series of being unable to open the program.
