Adding pages
I've come to the bottom of a page and want to continue onto another page. I've added measures to the score but they are smaller than the existing measures and won't accommodate lyrics. I've entered notes but the bars are not expanding as I read they would. I simply want to continue my score onto another page with the same size bars. Anyone have an answer for a novice. Thanks

To continue on a next page you possibly need a page break or a system break (see handbook). It sounds you're aware of appending measures with "Ctrl+B".
The best way is first to enter all elements (notes, lyrics and so on) before taking care about the layout (which means system breaks from the palette, system distances and other (format->style), scaling (format->page settings), ...
Lyrics can only be added to notes, so empty bars will not accommodate lyrics.

Well, as of latest lyrics can also be added to rests
It seems we are stumped trying to guess without seeing the score. Can you please attach the score you're having problems with?

I have a song which I am scoring. When I get to the bottom of the page I would like to be able to open a new page and continue scoring. I've tried appending bars but that's not what I want to do. What if my score is 6 pages long? Surely there must be a way to simply turn the page and continue scoring....frustrating!

Not frustrating, automatic like a word processor.
When you start a document in a word processor, you don't start by making the document 6 pages long, you start typing the document and let it automatically add needed pages. If you need to do some formatting, like force a page break, you enter it when you need it. This is the same idea that MuseScore does. The one thing different, is that if you run out of measures, you have to add more. When you want a new staff, press enter, when you want a new page, press ctrl+enter. If you run out of measures press shift+alt+B and add plenty to the end. When your done, delete the extra measures from the end. There's even a menu item for this under tools in the tools menu.

Bars expand as you add notes, but only enough for the notes themselves. They expanded enough to accommodate the lyrics once you actually add the lyrics.

Marc, Thank you for your response. Let me explain my question. I have already written 32 bars with lyrics. I can print it off and I have an 8 x 10 paper with 32 bars of music....I'm happy with it... I don't want to add 20 bars to the bottom of this page I want to be able to move ahead with bar #33 on a fresh page. As a relative novice, I'm sure there is a simple way to do this...I just haven't figured it out yet. If you could explain this to me I would appreciate it.

For what you want, insert a page break from the Breaks and Spacers palette into the last measure on the page.

If you want only 32 bars on a page, then I guess you already have system breaks to make it four bars per line? If so, just add the 20 measures, enter your notes, then use Format / Add/Remove Line Breaks to fille the rest of the measures with breaks every four bars as well. Then you can decide where to add the page break. Although actually you can do the last steps in any order. First step is definitely to add those 20 measures though.

Thank you for these suggestions...I'm making a little progress...not quite there. I open "Layout"...then "page settings" it opens a window with lots of specs but no icon that I can drag to the last bar. I can't find the breaks and spacers palette. Am I going in the right direction?

??? No one ever mentioned that dialog except as a way of changing the size of things. The suggestions have been mostly about using break icons from the Breaks & Spacer palette (one of the last palettes in the window at left), or the corresponding keyboard shortcuts (Enter and Cltr+Enter for system and page break), also to try Format / Add/Remove System Breaks to get breaks every 4 bars or whatever if you want.

I dragged the page break icon from the palette onto the last bar. I'm not sure what to do from there. How do I move forward onto the next bar? I've tried adding notes but they just change the notes within that bar....I'm really trying to get this. I know it must be simple, but not for me right now. Thank you for your patience.

Drag the page break onto the bar you want to be the last one on the page. So if you've already added the empty measures, to the bar before the measures you want on the next page. Juts like how you'd add a page break in a owrd processor - you're adding it to the last thing you want on a page, then everything else automatically moves to the next page. If you haven't already added the new measures, then add the page break at the end, sure, then start appending new measures.

Thanks...This worked. I finally discovered it takes two simple steps.
1. Drag the page break onto the the last bar.
2. Go to "add measures" and add the necessary measures....and...(drum roll)...you're on the next page.
Sometimes the simple tasks are best explained with simple instructions.

Thank you so much for stating your solution. I was in the same situation as you and none of the other explanations made sense to me. This made it easy. For a complete novice, using MuseScore is NOT intuitive!!!

Selecing a measure and hitting Return adds a system break. It can't get more intuitive, can it?
Similar for adding a measure: select a measure, hit "Ins"

I think the dilemma was related to page breaks, as in this conceivable scenario...
O.K. I'm at the final measure of page 1 of, for example, "My First Score" and need another page.
I add a page break to the final measure and nothing happens. Nada... Zilch.
Where (what) am I supposed to continue writing (on)? There is no visible second page.
As gospelmusics1234 discovers in step 2, the new page appears (apparently to a drum roll :-) only when more blank measures are added.

I want to add a blank page for lyrics (not set to any notes). How do I do that? The first page of my pieces has the music with three stanzas of a hymn set to the notes. Page 2 has stanzas 4-13 of the hymn (just lyrics). I need one more page for another 3 stanzas. (It is a long hymn).

Add a frame - vertical or text - and add the lyrics to that. Add a page break just before the frame to be sure it ends in on the next page.
