Can't open tablature files
I just upgraded to Musescore 4.3.0 and now I can't open any tablature scores that were created with previous versions. I have attached one of the files that I cannot open.

Sorry to say that your example score does not open here in MuseScore Studio 4.3 on MacOS, as you witnessed on Windows. There's just a very brief flash of a "blank score" ... and then MS4.3 silently abends.
• On the bright side: I was able to open your score in MuseScore Evolution 3.7.
• Disconcerting though: After saving from 3.7 I encountered the same silent crash when I attempted to open it in MuseScore 4.3.

I can reproduce. It seems that the trigger is the display of the TAB clef. By default, it is displayed when you create a score for Banjo (Tablature). Go to Staff/Part Properties and uncheck "Show Clef". It's the issue as can I understand.

I saved these files with 3.6.2, no matter, ignore them when opening with 4.3.
There have been some changes with these TAB keys for 4.3. I found this one: https://github.com/musescore/MuseScore/issues/20180
There's no linked staff in this case, but I wouldn't be surprised it's involved, or another one, related, I couldn't find yet.
Could someone issue the bug report on Github?

Wow. How did you figure out that an unchecked Show Clef property was the trigger?
I reopened the score in MuseScore 3.7, checked Show Clef in Staff/Part Properties, saved, and then successfully opened the score in MuseScore Studio 4.3, confirming your solution.

The habit of finding bugs: a few hundred (!) ) in V2 and V3.

I don't know. But in the meantime there's an easy solution. Instead of hiding the TAB clef via Staff/Part properties, just mark it as invisible (with the "V" key or by unchecking "Visible" in Properties). That's all.
The display (without TAB clef) is the same, but without the crash!

NB: for the record, I also unchecked "Show invisible" in menu View/Show. But not necessary since it won't print.

Thanks for the tip. It looks like I'll have to download Musescore 3, so I can open those tab files and make the TAB clef visible. What is the best link to download it from?

I have 60 files with tablature that won't open in V4.3.

Ok. So reinstall the 3.6.2 is really the easiest (why have remove it?!), here: https://musescore.org/en/download#Older-and-unsupported-versions

So, I reinstalled 3.6.2 and tried to open the same tab file that I attached to my first comment in this thread. I got this load error:
"Cannot read file C:/Users/obyrn/Documents/MuseScore4/Scores/Blank Banjo Tab G-tuning.mscz:
This score was saved using a newer version of MuseScore.
Visit the MuseScore website to obtain the latest version.
The file was originally created using MuseScore3, but now, it thinks it's a MuseScore 4 file.

MuseScore 3 has no way of know whether a score had been opened by a newer version, only that it has been save with a newer version

Just to be clear, if you want to handle the conversions yourself, you'll need a later version of MuseScore Evolution 3.7. The download instructions at the link provided.

Okay, I got MuseScore 3 Evolution installed and was able to open the banjo tab and change the staff properties to show clef. I then saved the file to the MuseScore 4 folder, replacing the existing file of the same name. I still could not open the file in MuseScore 4 without it crashing. So, I went back to MuseScore 3 Evolution, reopened the file and saved it to the MuseScore 3 folder. Then I was able to open it in MuseScore 4, save it in the MuseScore 4 directory and was able to reopen it again. So, now I'll be able to do the same with other TAB files that I want to open in MuseScore 4. Thanks to all who helped me with this issue.
