Hi tvvn,
As we are starting to prepare the release of MuseScore 1.1, your translation may come in just in time to get shipped with the release. So let's get started because there is no time to waste ;-)
First of all, let's get acquainted how to translate content on musescore.org:
This is how content on musescore.org is being translated. You can repeat the same steps for any other page, either menu pages or handbook pages.
One more thing, could you tell me what the translation is for: Free music composition & notation software
In reply to Translation by Thomas
Thanks for your guidance :)
Free music composition & notation software = Thảo trình sáng tác và viết nốt nhạc
I only see the translation for MuseScore teaser and not the MuseScore software itself?
In reply to Thanks for your guidance by tvvn
I see you succeeded in translating the teaser page. Good job! For all the other pages, start from the English website, and click on each translate tab and so forth.
For the software, you will find a Translate menu block in the right sidebar with links to:
translating the software
the websites content
the website strings
instructions how to translate in case you missed anything
So you were looking for how to translate the software: see the Software link.
In reply to Translating the software by Thomas
Thanks again, very helpful guidance :)
2 questions:
1- I downloaded the Thursday's Vietnamese qm, dropped it into MuseScore language folder. Run MuseScore but did not see Vietnamese as a choice in the Preferences/Language drop down menu. What did I do wrong?
2- How do I go back and edit a string already translated?
THANKS
In reply to Thanks again, very helpful by tvvn
Could you tell me what string in particular? I'll make a video of it.
In reply to Thanks again, very helpful by tvvn
Download this languages.xml file and place it in the C:\Program Files\MuseScore\locale folder. (backup the original one first)

Got # 1
Reagrding # 2:
Let's say the string in "Về" &About
http://translate.musescore.org/translate/languages/vi/edit?page=1&proje…
needs to be edited
I do not see an edit button for it
Thanks

I have a confession to make: I AM BLIND :)
Thanks

I am looking for the string "What's This?", I can not find it anywhere
In reply to I am looking for the string by tvvn
What's this? has been removed for the next version.
In reply to What's this? has been removed by [DELETED] 5
Thanks :)
Also I am looking for the string "Plugins"
In reply to Thanks :) Also I am looking by tvvn
The plugins menu as well as the plugins itself are not yet translatable. It will be possible starting from next major release, 2.0. Read more at http://musescore.org/en/node/8629#comment-29015
In reply to Plugins by Thomas
Do I have access to beta 2.0?
Thanks
In reply to Do I have access to beta by tvvn
You can download the nightly builds of the 2.0 release. Read all about it at http://musescore.org/en/node/2653
Keep in mind that the strings of the 2.0 release are not yet imported in the translation server. That will be done when the code is stable enough and when the string freeze period has started. As a translator, you will receive an email when 2.0 is ready to be translated.
In reply to Translation of the trunk by Thomas
Thanks. I'll keep that in mind
In reply to Thanks for your guidance by tvvn
How soon do we have to wait to get the latest qm translation? I am looking at the most current qm and it's several hours old. We can't start our second step without it.
Best
In reply to How soon do we have to wait by tvvn
You'll have to wait 24 hours. That's the way the software is implemented today, but in a next iteration, this will be every hour.
I manually pushed a new qm file. So you can start with the next step.
In reply to Translation by Thomas
I would like to report our group has finished the first step. This took 140 man hours.
We will start the second step tonight which focuses on the use of words from the North, Middle and South of Vietnam; we will pay special attention to the use of words in Vietnam and oversea (think of them like Low German and High German). This should take around 200 man hours.
After this second step is done, then we will start internal beta test in which users - composers and non composers - from the North, Middle, South will give feed back. This should take around 400 man hours. We will edit the word(s)/phrases based on users' feed back and move on to MuseScore's handbook.
Best regards

Wow, impressive! Well done guys.
Do you see a possibility to also translate the online [[nodetitle:handbook]] ? That way we can include the Vietnamese handbook as well for the 1.1 release which is coming out this month.
In reply to Impressive work! by Thomas
We are working on 16 translation projects at the same time this month. I wil try, but keep in mind MuseScore is our minor project so I can't pull too many people out of other major projects for this.
There's TWO handbooks, one included with the software and one online, correct?
In reply to We are working on 16 by tvvn
There is just one. The pdf included in the software is actually a print of the online version. There are 63 handbook pages to be translated.
In reply to Only one by Thomas
What's the dealine?
In reply to What's the dealine? by tvvn
The 1.1 prerelease will be issued this week. There is a public review of at least 10 days.
But to answer your question, there is no deadline set yet.
In reply to Prerelease by Thomas
We will start stranlating the handbook next week.
I did downloaded the latest qm but it did not contain our latest edited translation???
Ie: The string "&Layout" is still &Layout instead of "trình bày", the string "About Qt" is still About Qt instead of "Về thảo trình Qt"...
In reply to We will start the handbook by tvvn
Can you download the new qm file?
I just did and it still does not contain our lastest edited translation
In reply to I just did and it still does by tvvn
Do you see what I see?
In reply to Screenshot by Thomas
I found out what's wrong: Uninstall MuseScore and reinstall it, then the new qm file shows up.
In reply to I found out what's wrong: by tvvn
Simply revert to factory settings should do.
There some interface strings in the software that are not covered by mscore_vi.ts but instead qt_vi.ts. This is the translation of the Qt software. Several projects such as Virtualbox share these translated ts files, just like MuseScore.
Unfortunately I couldn't find qt_vi.ts on the internet which means no project has done this translation before. So attached is a blank qt_vi.ts file. The only contexts that need to be translated are QDialog, QDialogButtonBox. You can translate the ts file using Qt Linguist. Once done, attach it back here and we'll commit it in the MuseScore repository.
In reply to Translating qt_vi.ts by Thomas
Will do :)
Can you do us a great favor by manually "pushing" the qm now (we work in different time zones so we rather not waste 24 hours waiting).
Many thanks
In reply to Translating qt_vi.ts by Thomas
Strings translated :)
In reply to Strings translated :) by tvvn
Thanks a lot. qt_vi.ts is committed to the code repository.
Update: to test qt_vi.ts, save it as qt_vi.qm with Qt Linguist (Release As ... > .qm) and drop it in the MuseScore /locale folder. I must say, I don't know yet whether this will be sufficient to get it to work; It might be MuseScore will have to be build with this file once, after which you use this trick. In this case, you'll have to wait for the 1.1 prerelease which comes out this week.
In reply to Committed by Thomas
It should be enough to get it to work. MuseScore tries to load qt_XX.qm with XX being the locale.
In reply to Strings translated :) by tvvn
The ts file is not correct. The translated string should go into
and the unfinished attribute should be gone. You put your translation in
translatorcomment
. I guess you didn't use Qt Linguist.I changed the file accordingly and commit them. If you need to translate more string in qt_vi.ts, try to use Qt Linguist.
The fixed file is now here
In reply to The ts file is not correct. by [DELETED] 5
Seems the translation of 'No to All' is missing, and I guess it should be "&Không hết" (but my Vietnamese is non-existent)

Hi all,
I am looking for these strings:
Node input mode (N)
flat (-)
tie (+)
Save Online
Many thanks
In reply to Looking for strings by tvvn
For the first three, I will need some guidance to see where you found them in the software. A screenshot for each would be very helpful.
Regarding the forth, Save Online, this is a menu entry coming from a plugin and not yet translatable. Only starting from MuseScore 2.0, we'll add plugins to the translation server.
In reply to Some guidance by Thomas
Here they are:
In reply to Looking for strings by tvvn
I see the 1st 3 as tooltips when hovering over the foolbar, the "N", the symbol for tie and the "b"
In reply to Looking for strings by tvvn
Note input mode, flat and tie are in the context "action"
http://translate.musescore.org/translate/languages/vi/edit?search=Note%…
The shortcut (N), (+) etc... is added automatically after the name of the action.
In reply to Note input mode, flat and tie by [DELETED] 5
Hi lasconic,
I did search just for "node input mode" and was not able to find it
In reply to Hi lasconic, I did search by tvvn
it's note input mode
In reply to it's note input mode by [DELETED] 5
Thanks :)
I would like to thank all of the Vietnamese song writers and composers from Vietnam, America, England, Germany, Singapore, France, and especially members of the Vietnamese Library Online tvvn.org for your contributions, judgements, proposals, advices and corrections for this translation.
We made some difficult decisions in choosing certain words over others (ie: Khuôn, khuôn, khung.. for staves, staff; chuyển âm vực, đổi giọng ... for break) base on majority votes. We might adjust our choices in later revision based on more feedback.
We did pay attention to words used before 1975 under the Republic of Vietnam since they tend to be more precise and more clear in meaning.
The second phase of this project is now concluded.
In reply to Report by tvvn
Yea!!!
Hi all,
I have three questions:
1- In the tranlastion below, word(s) in the "[ [" (ie:
Freelinking: Unknown plugin indicator
.Phương pháp thứ nhất
Chọn nốt nhạc đầu tiên:
NOT FOUND: tie1.png
+ tạo ra một dấu nối:
NOT FOUND: tie2.png
Phương pháp thứ hai
Để tạo ra một dấu nối khi [[nodetitle:Viết nốt nhạc]] hãy bấm + sau nốt đầu tiên của dấu nối.
Many thanks
In reply to Questions about Booklet's tranlastion by tvvn
1. Yes, you should translate what is in between square brackets and it should match the title of the page it links to. So it can be helpful to translate the [[nodetitle:handbook]] page first, ie the titles of the pages, and then translate each page.
2. Correct
3. You can attach localized versions of images (screenshots) to each page and use the filename of that localized version. The best practice to localize an image is using the same filename as the english one and add a suffix: filename-vi.png
If you have more questions, please shoot.
In reply to Answers by Thomas
Shoot whom? :) J/K
I will work on the image taken from MuseScore 1.1
This part "Save File" will still be in English or can it be translated as well?
MuseScore chạy được trên nhiều hệ thống điều hành kể cả Windows, Mac OS, và Linux.
Windows
Bạn có thể lấy thảo trình dành cho Windows từ trang Chuyển Về của trang nhà MuseScore. Bấm vào đường hướng dẫn để bắt đầu phần chuyển về. Browser của bạn sẽ yêu cầu bạn xác định bạn muốn chuyển thảo trình này về máy. Bấm "Lưu Trữ Tài Liệu - Save File".
In reply to Another question on Booklet's translation by tvvn
You are translating the original English handbook pages, instead of adding a new translation!
The right workflow:
- Go to the English page
- Follow the 'translate' tab
- Add Vietnamese translation
And not!
- Go to the English page
- Follow 'edit' tab
- And replace the English text for translation
In reply to Warning!!! by Thomas
Sorry.
We have more than one contributors here at our office, we will follow the correct procedure from now on.
In reply to Warning!!! by Thomas
Do we have to redo the whole thing? We did not save a copy locally.
In reply to Do we have to redo the whole by tvvn
No, no need to redo it. I added the translation and reverted the English one.
Sorry I didn't state this.

Thanks! :)
Questions:
1- Does the installation support Unicode? If so, where are the strings to be translated? This relates directly to whether we should translate "Continue" to "Tiếp theo" or leave it (and others) alone.
NOT FOUND: install-wizard-1-winxp.png
Thảo trình sẽ khuyên bạn nên tắt hết tất cả thảo trình đang chạy trước khi tiếp tục. Sau khi bạn đã làm điều này, bấm nút "Tiếp theo" để tiếp tục.
2- Will the installer be programmed to ask for language choice before installing?
In reply to Thanks! :) Questions: 1- by tvvn
In both cases (1 & 2), Qt, which MuseScore is built on, takes the language of the operating system and serves MuseScore in that language. So you are not prompted to select your language, MuseScore will be in Vietnamese when the operating system is as well. Of course, one can override the language setting by selecting another language.
It's the same for musescore.org btw. When you browse to http://musescore.org with a browser in the Vietnamese locale, you will be served the Vietnamese homepage. You can choose/push your language by going directly to an url with the right iso code, e.g. http://musescore.org/en
In reply to Qt does this by Thomas
Our Vietnamese oversea community spreads across several countries and we use local language for Windows but Vietnamese language for specific software (such as MuseScore). When we package or repackage certain software (with permission), we program it so that it prompts user to select language before starting the installation.
Also since we could translate one English word to different word(s) in Vietnamese (depending whether we choose to use word(s) from the South, Middle or North Vietnam), it will confuse users.
Example: The word "Next" could be translated to "Tiếp tục" or "Tiếp theo", "Kế", "Kế tiếp"... . Let's say we decide to use "Tiếp tục" and the Windows version being localized could use "Kế" (when we use "Tiếp tục"), the instruction in our hanbook ends up not matching with what users see on screen.
We will voice over all video tutorials with Vietnamese instruction after we finish some major projects on our side. It could be this year, it could be next year.
Have a great day.
Should this string "Version: 0.9.0 (Phiên bản 0.9.0)" be changed to 1.1.0?
In reply to Do we need to update this? by tvvn
I can't find Version: 0.9.0 in the translation server. Can you send me the direct link to it? Or did you see it in the software itself?
In reply to Don't find Version: 0.9.0 by Thomas
I found 3 things that needs to be updated:
"Copyright 1999-2009 Werner Schweer and Others" should be changed to "Copyright 1999-2011 Werner Schweer and Others"
The other 2 please attachment
In reply to I found 3 things that needs by tvvn
Alright, good find. The 2 strings you found were orphaned and not connected anymore to the MuseScore project. They should have been removed from the translation server and I forgot doing that. Sorry!
Regarding the copyright date, you're totally right. Let me check with lasconic what we can do about this.
In reply to Good finds, 2 fixes, one to go by Thomas
So I talked it through with lasconic and although the original string is wrong, as long as the translation is 2011, it's all ok. For MuseScore 2.0, we'll make sure this glitch is fixed. Thanks again for spotting and reporting this.
Just updated the translation ;)

The testimonials are not necessary. We are planning to make something new for testimonials, in order to attract more localized testimonials and not only English.
Thanks for caring!

My translated, i only fix some wrong wors.

(Where are you from? Are you a Vietnamese?)
May I ask whether you would be able to translate the song "I've Got You Under My Skin" by Frank Sinatra into Vietnamese?
I've got you under my skin.
I've got you deep in the heart of me.
So deep in my heart that you're really a part of me.
I've got you under my skin.
I'd tried so not to give in.
I said to myself: this affair never will go so well.
But why should I try to resist when, baby, I know so well
I've got you under my skin?
I'd sacrifice anything come what might
For the sake of havin' you near
In spite of a warnin' voice that comes in the night
And repeats, repeats in my ear:
Don't you know, little fool, you never can win?
Use your mentality, wake up to reality.
But each time that I do just the thought of you
Makes me stop before I begin
'Cause I've got you under my skin.
[Musical interlude]
I would sacrifice anything come what might
For the sake of havin' you near
In spite of the warning voice that comes in the night
And repeats - how it yells in my ear:
Don't you know, little fool, you never can win?
Why not use your mentality - step up, wake up to reality?
But each time I do just the thought of you
Makes me stop just before I begin
'Cause I've got you under my skin.
Yes, I've got you under my skin.
Best wishes,
Minh Nguyen ☺️
