Why isn't my DS al Coda working?

• Apr 26, 2017 - 17:40

In the attachment, there is a d.s. al coda indication at measure 20, which is supposed to jump to measure 1. However while playing back the score, the playback just goes through the measure without doing the jump. I've checked and all the labels seem correct; why isn't the playback working properly? thanks.

The coda in measure 10 needs to say "to Coda." MuseScore doesn't recognize the coda symbol as a "to Coda." If you want to use this unusual but not unheard of notation, then make the "to Coda" invisible (select it and press V), then insert a Coda symbol into system text or staff text from the special characters. Press F2 while entering the text to see the special characters palette.

You can create such a marking via the "custom palette" facility - see the Handbook section of that name. Create the marking by adding a regular "To Coda" to your score, editing it to add the coda sign via the F2 "special characters" palette, and sizing the coda however you like using the regular text controls at the bottom of the window. Then add it to a custom palette using Ctrl+Shift+drag as described in the Handbook. Now it will be available any time you want.
