Notation appears a second or a third below the note inserted
Inserting a note from the computer keyboard or the piano keyboard creates a note that is a second or third higher than the note intended. Inserted note must be adjusted using the down arrows on the computer keyboard. When inserting with the cursor, this happens as well, even though the proper selection appears prior to clicking.
Using Windows 7 with most current version of MuseScore. Screen capture shows F# on the piano keyboard where a G# is selected in the score.

Without seeing the actual score it is hard to tell, but I guess you're using transposing instrument.
Look at the inspector for this note , for the position of the head, I'm sure it's not a Gsharp but a Fsharp not at his place
Which clef is that on? It looks like a bass clef C#, but the note heads have been moved on the notes. You need to attach your score.
It's G Clef, flute. I've attached the score.

You had increased the lines distance (between the 5 lines of the staff) from 1 to 1.25, this confused the hell out of MuseScore. If you want a larger staff, increase the scaling instead.

Thank you so much. Your revision works fine. I can't locate this setting for myself, though. This is the first score I've tried, and this software is so helpful, but complicated.

The setting to control staff size is in Layout / Page Settings - see "Scaling / Staff space"

Hmm... got it, Thanks. But at the moment, it's set at 1.964mm. Seems to work fine. I might have changed it in some other manner. I had some issues with having room for chord symbols and tempo text.
Good news, I have it finished with repeats, lyrics, 1st and 2nd endings, slurs and triplets. I've learned a lot. Great software!

The setting I changed back to default is in right click on staff, staff properties, line distance.
