In order to more than guess we would need you to attach your score and describe the problem In much more detail - tell us what exactly you are doing step by step.

As it is, my best guess is you are entering into a bass clef staff and are using the rhythm first method of note input, so indeed your get nothing but D’s as you selected durations.

You mean you press "N" and MuseScore does not go to note input mode? If you go to Edit / Preferences / Shortcuts, which shortcut o you see listed for "Note input"? If something other "N", try clicking Reset Shorcut to Default". Same for any other shortcut not working. Or just fix them all at once with "Reset All Preferences to Default". But that wouldn't answer the question of how they got changed.

If they are showing the correct shortcuts but somehow aren't working, perhaps your keyboard is defective? Or some other program on your system is "stealing" the keystrokes, perhaps to implement some sort of macro facility? Try rebooting and then not starting any other programs before running MuseScore.

Musescore text boxes do not properly handle "dead keys" when the US-International keyboard layout is used on Windows. You can use + e to compose è for example, but if you type+ [space] which should just give you `, then nothing appears. The workaround is to switch away from this keyboard layout, or compose the text elsewhere and paste it in.

I'm having a similar problem. I've been using Musescore happily for years on a desktop - now having to try using it on a laptop, and find that Musescore doesn't respond to the alphanumeric keys. The laptop is a Lenovo Thinkpad (Windows 11) which lacks the extra number key-pad - is that something to do do with the problem?

Too late answer cause I'm a new user of MS and I found the same problem.

This problem is the same for both MuseScore 3 and 4.

I have found a solution to a problem that has been bothering me for a while.
If I launch MuseScore in some environment, the keyboard does not work.
There is no response when the 'n' key is pressed for note input.

Even if I search for related topics, it is said that this kind of problems occur mainly in Mac, but people seemed the Muse Score team could not replay the keyboard problem, so it was not resolved.

I finally found the answer to this problem, the cause was the local keyboard.
Before running MuseScore, the keyboard must be changed to US.
If you run it with a local keyboard, there is no effect even if you change US and local after that.
