In case of repeats (or jumps) sometimes a "half" slur is necessary. This means that the last chord of the measure shall be merged to the first chord of the measure that is jumped to.
The same applies to hold slurs (the difference is just that the notes are really merged to one). But as a first approach normal slurs would do it, too.
Actually a slur always connects to the chord of the next measure - which is of cause the normal behaviour.

While there are workarounds (which I have yet to understand, as that page is a rather long read and confusing to new users), this is rather basic editing and should not require a workaround to begin with.

For jazz standards there are many tunes beginning with an upbeat where the last note uses a slur going into bar 1 of the tune. If A section is played twice, often times that is notated as first and second ending, while the first ending then needs a slur on the last note.

But the workarounds do work! I think the tie to invisible grace note is probably the most recommended at this point. I used to prefer a text element but am warming to the grace note method.
