Why do percussion instruments suddenly have string/trumpet playback?

• Jun 20, 2019 - 09:52

Check the attached score, the cymbal/bass drum both have string sounds and military tambourine has trumpet sounds. The only thing I did which is possible to trigger this change, I believe, was some settings in the synthesizer, but neither do I know why they can trigger this nor how to change it back, I've changed everything to default but the playback is still incorrect. Does somebody know what's going on?

I'm not sure what's causing your sound to go haywire. You must have the wrong sound applied to the instruments or more likely sounds that don't exist in your sound font assigned to the instruments

On a related note, the "military tambourine" is actually a "military tamburo" which is a type of snare drum, more like a marching snare drum. Just use snare drum for the sound if you don't have anything better.

Without access to your synthesizer (which is impossible for me), I can't explain.

One thing to do is check your sound assignments and make sure you have the correct sound font selected in your mixer.

You know when you change sound fonts in the mixer, because the sound fonts are number starting at 0. When you run across a sound in the second sound font that is in the first you will see (1) after it, sounds in the 3rd sound font that exist in any previous sound font it will have (2) after it and so forth. You can use these numbers to keep track of which sound font you are using. By the way, if this is the first time you close MuseScore in several days then it possible you have found this bug: #290147: Mixer not remembering changes in the channels

I know I'm late, but I wrote this one piece on my other account. The same problem happened when the bells sounded like the bell part and the trumpet on the official website. I think it's because the trumpet and the bells/xylophone play the same thing except for a 2 measure percussion break when there was no Trumpet, and the xylophone finally stopped playing as the trumpet. The reason why is because your percussion instruments could be playing the same rhythm as a different instrument.
