3.3.0.8737 Hidden Notes & Formats

• Nov 1, 2019 - 16:40

As titled with attached, bar 8 and 15 have hidden notes upon invisibling make formats (bar width and notes distance) not the same as the bars which do not have hidden notes, bar 4 for example.
How to adjust them make them look better?

Yes, this " invisible staff" way is easier than manually moving notes (chords) way, the drawbacks I could think of for now are: 1. Changing playback needs adujustment of two instruments in the mixer; 2. Students lose hints of how to play certain parts of music, in this case the turn with sharp, which could be shown simply by visibling the invisibles notes.

The corresponding advantage is that you can have independent control of the playback of the ornament, including a simple way to mute them all. As mentioned above, the invisible staff is actually much better for the hints, just make the staff visible again and set it to cutaway and always hide when empty - quicky creates ossia, which is the proper way to notate these anyhow.

This second day, ossia was put on trial in real flute playing time: after many mouse clicks and keyboard strokes, a layout and format changed score was displayed --- it's just practically not feasible, comparing to the way of using hidden notes of voice 2 which only one stroke of user assigned hot key (shift+i) is needed.

It still the same topic if hidden notes should be automaic positioned which influence the visibles of reading and printing.

I'm confused, if you want to create ossia, there is no way to do that using the method you used. And the picture you posted makes no sense at all, it seems to be the worst of both worlds. Why not create normal ossia? One wonderful thing about ossia is that its just a single command to make that staff visible or invisible, not sure what you mean about "many mouse clicks and keybaord stroke" - press I, uncheck Visible, OK. That's far simpler than having to select all the invisible notes to toggle their visibility. So I'm not sure what you're doing erong, but the whole idea is that it really is the better way. maybe you mean, it takes some work to correct scores you've already entered the old way to make them work the better way? That is true, but it will be well worth it.
