Initial playback delay
This is a little something that has been happening in the last week or so.
In the past, I could open MuseScore, open a score and have sound right away. Now, I select a note or hit play and nothing happens. After a number of attempts, the playback bar appears, the sound is sluggish and distorted for a beat or two, then lays normally for the rest of the session. I haven't tried a second score in the session to see if it is normal.
If I first open the score and wait a few minutes playback is normal.
This is version 3.4.1 with the HQ font. Windows 10, Switching drivers in Preferences does nothing. It happens with all scores, when they are the first score opened. I have the latest driver for my sound card. I haven't tried a reset yet.
Just wondering if anyone else gets this. Not a big deal, just odd.

Probably it's the HQ soundfont, then. The bigger the soundfont, the longer it takes to fully load and initialize.

Could be. But I've been using the same setup for a while. I'll experiment around.

Well, the more I messed with it, the worse it got. Until no sound at all. Finally did the revert to factory settings, and things seem back to normal. Interesting.

That probably switched from the HQ soundfont to the non-HQ
To avoid the delay in playback start I'm using the Sf2 version of the HQ soundfont, that doesn't need to get uncompressed, so playback starts immediately

Maybe.
I switched back to HQ and the delay is back. I don't remember that delay happening before. But then, I don't remember yesterday all that well :-)
I thing the HQ font sounds better. I don't mind waiting.
sf2, eh. I my have a look.

Been that way ever since with the HQ soundfont and to a lesser extent with every SF3 one.
