sequencer or ?

I have been using Musescore for a few years now and have joined up not so much to download music but to support the fine product that it is. It is by far the best notation program I've ever used.
Now, I am a musician. I play mostly guitar. I've started using Musescore to create bass lines that I can improvise to. I'd like to add some other instrumentation and I understand how to add other instruments and staffs.
My question revolves around what I think is sequencers. I have an old Yamaha QY100 that is no longer in production. It would let me set up backing tracks fairly easily if I used their patterns. What I'd like to be able to do is write my tracks in musescore and maybe export them as MIDI files to use in some kind of sequencer software..... I think. Here I am showing my ignorance of terminology. If anyone can point me to software that might do what I want or can point me to a good book that can educate me or ask me questions to clarify what I need to do I'd appreciate it.

I have a Roland MIDI Cable (UM-ONE-MK2) that works with my Motif connected to my MacBook Pro.

Your Yamaha QY100 has MIDI IN an OUT so I'd say there is a good chance it would work.

If you have a smart media card for you QY100 then use the QY to format it. Then put it in the computer slot or whatever you have to read the card with the computer and make sure the computer recognizes the format. If it does then you should be able to save standard MIDI to it. Unfortunately NEW technology and OLD don't mix well but then sometimes you get lucky.

Assuming you want to integrate the Yamaha, you need connectors to get from your computer to the Yamaha. This will likely involve going from USB to Midi in. The manual shows an old box that could do this. (I also assume you don't have Midi out on your soundcard.) This connector will allow you to stream the Midi to the Yamaha with Musescore acting as the controller, and without exporting.

After thinking more about this, I think it might be easier for me to just learn a new way. The QY100 was great for what it was. But... trying to get from USB to MIDI or trying to find a smartcard drive to work with my Win10 machine just seems to be going backwards.

Hmmm. Or just write out parts in MuseScore. Simple parts at first. You have some bass lines alreadySimple kick and snare drum. You'd be amazed at how cool that much is. Maybe later add chords on a piano or organ. Doesn't have to be fancy at first. Playback through your amp.
