Sandpaper block sound

• Apr 27, 2016 - 01:57

I am wondering why I am unable to activate the sandpaper block sound, any one else noticed it too ? In play back it defaults to a ringing triangle like sound, which is quite the opposite to what is intended. I have tried various options in the mixer window, but nothing seems to work. I have attached the file to illustrate what is happening.

It's working as expected here - there is no sandpaper blocks sound in the GM2 drumsets, so it was set to Cabasa in Instruments.xml as a near soundalike.

Assuming you are using MuseScore 2.x - if not then the solution may be to upgrade!

Are you using the default soundfont?

If not, it is possibly down to the drumset defined in that soundfont

Are you using a custom Instruments.xml? - If sandpaper blocks were redefined as Shaker then Open Triangle is the sound next below it, so a slip in numbering could be responsible.

Probably the easiest solution would be to try a Factory reset......

I wonder if somehow the drumset on your machine has got changed.

Open the Edit drumset dialogue (press the button on the bottom left whilst in Note Entry mode) then scroll down to the assignment.

It should look like this
SandpaperDrumset.PNG

If it doesn't, then that is your problem, and you should reset the drum assignment to what it should be. (You could, of course set another sound if you wanted to)

You can find instructions on editing the drumset here.....
https://musescore.org/en/handbook/drum-notation

And a list of GM2/GS drumkit note assignations here.....
http://www.voidaudio.net/percussion.html

But be aware that the list sets middle C as C3 not C4 which is a MIDI convention.

If this isn't the answer, then I'm totally mystified as to why it plays correctly on my system - but not on yours!

Which OS are you using?
