Once you have assembled notes, could there be a function that positions rests of a voice where the notes of it are aligned? It could also perhaps reposition rests of other voices to avoid collision.
It would be applied on a bar-to-bar basis, or selecting all.

Doesn't this already exist in the trunk? Although I,d like the ability to customize the vertical offset.
It's for instances where you have notes somewhere other than the stave, the rests remain in the default position (on the stave).
