Actually I just checked again and even Cmd + Backspace does work for me... Is it possible you have some conflicting shortcuts? Anyone else with the same problem?
This is very interesting. The "Timewise delete" shortcut conflicts with "Delete Selected Measures," and in fact neither works via shortcut.
Clearing the "Timewise delete" shortcut re-enables "Delete Selected Measures." Clearing the "Delete Selected Measures" shortcut enables "Timewise delete"—which also seems to work to delete selected measures, but then leaves behind the blue - sign.

On a mac, it's Cmd + Fn + Backspace since there is no Del key.
Can you confirm that it works?
It does not. However, if I set the shortcut to something entirely different (Cmd + /), then it does.
Weird, it's working for me here.
Condensed laptop keyboard vs. full keyboard layout?
mm, I have a macbook pro 15 retina (french keyboard). What about you?
13-inch, US English keyboard (no numpad).

In the end, they both do more or less the same and they will probably be merged.
At present it does seem to leave behind an invisible and unselectable measure 0 beats in length.
