When I apply the comma ( , ) as a shortcut for ties, the change disappears when I restart MuseScore. If I use comma as a shortcut for any other function, it works, and if I use another key as a shortcut for the tie function, it works as well.
See #63301: Comma as a shortcut won't get saved. I think you'll find that comma doesn't work for *any* shortcut, not just ties (or rather, it works at first, but isn't saved, because comma is treated specially).
Oh, does it really not work with other shortcuts? Lang syne, I think it did on my other computer; but my memory is rather messed up, so I am very probably wrong. Thanks for the feedback! I will see which other key would serve as a comfortable shortcut.
