Muting certain instruments
I was wondering if there was a way in the program to be able to mute certain instruments, but keep certain others audible so that you can see how one sounds. For example, say I want to hear the alto sax in a saxophone trio but I already have the baritone and tenor sax parts in, and I don't want to hear them. Is there any way I can do something like this?

See the display->mixer window. Set volume and panning for each instrument, mute and solo controls, etc.

But can you unmute a muted instrument to play a certain part then mute it again automatically?

Hmm...
What do you mean by "automatically"?
For example. the unmuted instrument plays that certain part today, but tomorrow you want that certain part to be muted again -- and what, this occurs automatically?

If you mean you have a staff that contains a lot of notes but you only want some of them to play - and you want it to be this way every time you play the score, so you don't need to manually toggle the mute button during playback - then the way to do this is to uncheck the Playt property for the notes you don't want to hear.
